Pre-shoot Information for Headshots and Modeling Portfolios

This pre-shoot information applies to both headshot and
model photography unless otherwise stated.

Style
Look through the galleries on my website and pick out what style headshots or modeling images you think will represent you the best. You can choose a few different styles. During your free phone consultation, we will discuss your choices and plan out the details of your shoot.

Wardrobe for Headshots
Please make sure that your wardrobe fits well and does not take attention away from your face. As a general rule, no bright colors or loud patterns. Solid, darker colors are usually a good bet. They help keep the focus on your face. You can bring in some brighter colors if you think they really work for you. Ask people that can be honest with you how about how you look in your choices. When it comes to wardrobe, more to choose from is always better. Bring in at least twice the wardrobe options as the number of headshots planned. We will go through all of your options before the shoot and choose what will work best.

Clothing below the waist is not important. That includes shoes. I will only be shooting above the waist.

Wardrobe for Modeling Portfolios
There are just way too many options for wardrobe when it comes to creating a modeling portfolio. Please call or email to talk about your session. If you need help, we can refer you to a great stylist.

Agents / Managers

Please talk to your representation before the shoot. They may have very specific instructions for you and what they want to see in your pictures.

Practice!!!
It’s very important that you know what your face is doing. Practice in the mirror or on video. I will be directing and providing you with feedback but learning how to smile for the camera during a photo shoot isn't the right time.

The Day/Night Before the Shoot

Get plenty of rest and stay hydrated.

Don't stay out partying all night before the shoot. It’s unprofessional and it will show in your pictures.

Don't get a spray tan the day of your shoot or spend too much time in the sun. Sunburns are very hard to retouch out.

Makeup / Hair

Don't get your hair cut the day before your shoot. Try to wait a week and a half and let the hair grow out a little. If you booked a makeup artist show up clean faced. If the makeup artist is not doing your hair please have it done when you arrive.

Shoot Day

Show up as close to 100% your best as possible. Bring some snacks and a water. It's best not to let yourself get too hungry or thirsty during the shoot.
